Se pare că această dilemă are mai multe variante. Pe cea veche o știți deja, nu? Aia cu studenții de la hotel? V-am prezentat-o acum mult timp, dar fiindcă e doar în limba română, am să o reiau mai jos și în engleză.

Azi (pentru voi e ieri) Daniel U. (nu, nu-l cunoașteți) a publicat pe facebook o imagine cu același tip de problemă și fiindcă mi-am amintit de faptul că mulți încă mai caută răspunsul, mi-am zis să scriu alt articol, să explic și această variantă care sună cam așa:

(am adaptat-o puțin, dar oricum e mult mai simplă și mai puțin amețitoare decât aia cu studenții)

Vrei să cumperi o bluză de 97 de lei dar nu ai bani. 

Ceri mamei tale, dar îți dă doar 50 de lei. Îi ceri și tatălui tăi și el îți dă încă 50 de lei.

Ai acum 100 lei.

Cumperi bluza și rămâi cu 3 lei.

Ca să mai reduci datoria le dai înapoi părinților câte 1 leu, iar tu păstrezi 1 leu.

Acum le datorezi amândorura câte 49 lei.

49lei+49lei+1leu (al tău) = 99 lei
Întrebarea e: unde este un leu din cei 100lei?

Aștept cu nerăbdare soluția voastră... Dacă nu știe nimeni răspunsul corect, îl dau eu vineri, într-un LE. Comentariile cu răspunsuri vor fi publicate tot vineri (restul apar când le văd, ca de obicei)
Tot vineri pun și link-ul spre articolul vechi.. ăla cu studenții ( care acum este ascuns :D )

L.E. Dezamăgit să văd că nici măcar nu ați încercat... ei bine:

Calculul final e cel care ne induce în eroare fiindcă e o aberație totală. Să parcurgem totul cu logică, nu citind ce vrea autorul să citim. Ai 100 lei împrumutați, cumperi o bluză de 97lei și rămâi cu 3lei. Dacă dai înapoi doi lei (câte unul fiecărui părinte) și păstrezi un leu, datoria ta devine 98 lei (100-2=98), adică exact prețul tricoului plus leul care ți-a rămas rest (97+1=98). Acum are sens, nu?

The missing penny

 

It seems that this dilemma has many variations. The old one was about those students that stopped at a hotel,  and I presented it a long time ago, but that article is written only in Romanian, so I'll repeat the story here:

Three students stop at a hotel to rent a room.

A room is 30 pennies. Each puts 10 pennies and they pay the room.

After some time the receptionist realized he had to make a 5 penny discount. He calls the doorman and sends him up to the room to give them back 5 pennies. The doorman, upset for he did not receive tips, decides to take 2 pennies,  thinking that the three will share more easily the rest (5 - 2 = 3). 

Students happily take their money and shared it - one penny each. Initially they gave 10 pennies but received back 1 penny, so, in fact each paid 9 pennies.

Doing some math: 

9 pennies x  3 students = 27 pennies + 2 pennies (taken by the doorman) = 29 pennies ...... 

Where is the missing 1 penny?

Today (for you is yesterday) Daniel U. (no, you don't know him) published a picture on facebook with the same kind of problem, and because I remembered that there are many still looking for the answer, I thought I should also make a post to explain this version which goes something like this:

(I adapted it a bit, but anyway it's much easier and less confusing than the other one)

You want to buy a shirt that costs 97 pennies but you have no money.

After asking your mother, she gives you 50 pennies. You then go and ask your father, and he also gives you 50 pennies. Now you have 100 pennies.

After buying the shirt you still have 3 pennies, so you decide to reduce your dept ang give back to your parents 1 penny each, while keeping 1 penny.

Now you only owe them each 49 pennies.

So 49 pennies + 49 pennies + 1penny (that you still have) = 99 pennies.

The question is: where is the missing 1 penny?

Ok, so I guess you want some answers?? First why don't you give it a shot? I'll return on friday with the answers in a „Later Edit”.

L.E. No one? No answers? I'm sad to see that. But, as I promised, here is the answer:

The last sum is the one that confuses us, because it's total bullshit, but seems legit at first sight.

Well, în the first case, the one with the students, the problem is that the 2 pennies that the doorman took, are covered by the price they paid for the room, so there is no point in adding them to the final sum. In fact the sum goes like this: Each payed 9 pennies = 27 pennies form wich we subtract the tip for the doorman (2 pennies) and we get 25, exactly the price of the room. Or instead, we add to that the 3 pennies they received and get the 30 pennies we started from. Easy, huh?

For the second dilemma, the solution is quite similar: In the end, you owe your parents 98 pennies wich is exactly the price of the shirt plus the penny you kept. This one is easier if you see that the calculus is wrong!
