O călătorie în timp

Prin geamul trenului care tocmai se punea în mișcare, privirea îmi străbătea întunericul nopții, urmărind cum ea rămâne în urmă, în gară, într-o ploioasă seară de luni, 30 septembrie.

Atunci am văzut-o pentru ultima dată, dar nu era nici urmă de tristețe sau regret în gândurile mele, ci pură adrenalină fiindcă totul se întâmplase atât de repede. Atât de repede că abia abia am reușit să prind trenul înainte ca acesta sa părăsească gara.

Cum să... tai pe lungime cu circularul de mână

În acest articol încerc să vă prezint o metodă de a tăia drept pe lungime, folosind circularul de mână. Eu exemplific pe o scândură, dar metoda funcționează cu succes pentru orice fel de tăietură (tăiere plăci sau tăiere transversală) dar și pentru prelucrări cu alte unelte de exemplu pentru mașina de frezat (dar despre asta altădată).

„It's not rocket science” dar sunt sigur că unora le va fi de folos.

Sondaj: Portofel, portmoneu, port-document?

Dragilor, astăzi aș dori să mă ajutați cu ceva. Actualul portofel s-a cam uzat și trebuie musai să caut înlocuitor, dar nu știu exact ce să iau.

Nu am ajuns chiar ca în imagine, dar și eu îmi țin în portofel tot felul de chestii de la bani, carduri, acte, cărți de vizită, chitanțe, fotografii, plasturi, legitimații, până la șurubelnițe și pene de chitară, ceea ce face ca dimensiunea acestuia să fie destul de mare.

Pe de o parte mi-aș lua un portofel similar celui curent, ca să îl folosesc la fel, dar pe de altă parte ar fi mai simplu să separ banii și cardurile de restul actelor,și mă gândesc și la opțiunea de a lua un port-document pentru toate actele și un portofel mai mic în care să țin doar banii. E o dilemă grea așa că am decis să vă întreb pe voi cum procedați... să fac un mic sondaj.

Folosiți portofele sau port-documente; sau țineți banii legați în buzunar și actele în alt buzunar sau în mașină; sau genți / borsete?

Știu că există agrafe pentru bani dar astea sunt mai des folosite în alte țări sau poate și la noi de cei bogați... că la urma urmei e un fel de accesoriu vestimentar și se pretează pentru oameni de afaceri, pentru „costume”.

Iată că Azi, surpriză: mi-a luat tata un portofel. Apreciez gestul, nu zic nu, dar... cum să vă spun. Știți cum e când primiți un cadou care deși ca idee și gest e frumos, din punct de vedere practic te dezamăgește? E cadou, nu-l poți refuza, gestul e frumos, nu am ce-i zice, dar obiectul în sine cam lasă de dorit. Da, e nou, arată mult mai bine decât jaful meu actual are multe buzunare dar e mai mic decât cel vechi și nu începe bine buletinul; ah ce urăsc cărțile noastre de identitate că-s inutil de mari. De ce nu-s făcute la aceeași dimensiune ca permisul de conducere sau cartea de credit?

Încă o chestie: de ce oare portofelele au atât de multe buzunare? Dacă pui în el toate cardurile, banii și cărțile de vizită, nu se mai închide. Serios! Am nenumărate „sertare” dar nu le pot folosi fiindcă nu s-ar mai închide portofelul cel nou.  Am uitat să vă spun că am chiar și două compartimente pentru cartele SIM. Cine cară în portofel cartele SIM? De ce aș face asta?

Și de ce oare nu sunt sertarele astea standardizate. Dintr-o serie de trei, doar primul acomodează corect o carte de credit, celelalte două sunt „fără fund”, adică riști să intre cardul cu totul și să nu-l mai poți scoate prea ușor.

Da, recunosc, n-am avut decât portofele dintr-astea ieftine dar mă întreb, oare și la alea scumpe, de firmă, sunt asemenea probleme? Sau alea sunt mai bine gândite?

Minunata noastră rețea feroviară

Dragii mei, iată că mă aflu din nou pe drumuri, din nou pe tren. Trebuie să fiu în Iași mâine dimineață la prima oră, așa că am plecat de azi din Roman. Am stat și am analizat, am pus în balanță opțiunile și am decis că e mai economic să merg cu trenul decât cu microbuzul (doar la dus).

Mare greșeală!!

Vedeți voi, la ora asta ar fi trebuit să fiu deja la destinație, bucurându-mă de minunatul târg și de prietenii mei dragi ce locuiesc în el. Dar în schimb sunt în tren, în Pașcani, unde am ajuns cu mai bine de 40 de minute în urmă.

Da, ați citit bine. Mai mult decât atât, trenul a ajuns în Roman cu 50 de minute mai târziu decât ora normală. Așadar cam câte minute întârziere credeți că va avea la Iași??

O chestie la care nu ne gândim atunci când un tren întârzie e că pe parcurs e posibil să nu câștige timp, ci dimpotrivă să rămână și mai în urma. Asta din cauză că, prin simplul fapt că a plecat târziu din gara X a dat peste cap tot graficul și trebuie să cedeze prioritate trenurilor care sunt în grafic și care folosesc același traseu, chiar și parțial.

Da, e o adevărată plăcere să călătorești cu trenul în România. Dar de acum gata! Nu mai calc în trenuri când există opțiuni pe șosea!

Rock climbing in the longest day of the year

The story I'm about to tell you took place on the 26 of October 2013, which was, as most of you might now, the longest day of this year, because that is the day when the clocks turn back an hour thanks to the Daylight Saving Time. 

  

First of all, you must know that I had absolutely no plan of going to Galați on that weekend. In fact I was going to be on the other side of the country, in Iași, attending and photographing a wedding, surrounded by dear friends. On Thursday I saw the climbing trip announced on the forum, and my mind started to go wild. Immediately I went online to find some train from Iași to Galați. The only option that I found convenient for me was leaving Iași with the midnight train to Bucharest just up to Tecuci. There I had to wait 2 hours and get on the commute train to Galați. But since the DST was scheduled at 4:00 AM which was right during my transfer, I had to wait in Tecuci 3 hours instead of 2 for the train to leave

After sleeping no more than 2 hours in the train, I arrived in Galați at 6:45, and by 7 o’clock I was in my room unpacking from the road and packing for the mountain trip. At 7:30, as planned, Dan and Doina picked me up and so the day started. After we picked up everybody else (Dan has a 7 seat car) we were on our way to Măcin, crossing the Danube by ferry, in Brăila.

It was a little over half past nine when we arrived at the base of the mountains. All we had to do next was to get our backpacks and hike up towards the climbing site.

After a 40 minutes hike, after the weight of the backpacks and the heat of the sun made us lose some layers of clothes (cause we were all dressed for autumn's cold), after a short rendez-vous with a fellow hiker, we arrived at the site at 10:20 AM

And now the climbing day officially starts!

I got there first and was so eager to climb that I just could not wait for the others to catch up. I just started unpacking and putting on the harness and gear. Ciprian who was right behind me was doing the same thing. After the others arrived we shown them the gear and some basic rappel techniques; I was the anchor point for the rappel simulation:

After the small tutorial it was time for the climb, but first we had to set the anchor for top roping. To do that, someone has to lead climb right up to the bolts and set up the anchor. I volunteered to do that because I wanted to lead climb :D Although I did some indoor climbing, this was my first time rock climbing and if we add to that the fact that I was lead, it made everything even more interesting.

For those of you who might not know, lead climbing means to start climbing free up until the first bolt, set a quickdraw there and pass your rope through it. Only then you are protected from a fall. When climbing, from one bolt to the other, the anchor point is below you so that in case of falling you go down quite a long way, almost twice the distance from two bolts, unlike top roping, when the rope stops you from falling to far. So yeah, it was a very interesting experience, and found that the same route seams much easier when top roping. It really is a pshycological thing.

After setting that anchor, one by one, every participant to the trip climbed the „Ionuț” route. In that time I installed another anchor and tope rope for the „Banana” route. Using this anchor, with Florin at belay I tried to climb „Măr Acru”, „Banana” and „Tropicana” but could only finish „Banana” route. (I know the names of the routes are funny)

When everybody finished „Ionuț” and started to climb „Banana” I took down the anchor from the first route and, with Dan at belay I went lead up another route called „Balcoane”. It’s a pretty nice route and I managed to climb it up until the first regroup point. After reaching it, Dan lowered me so that I could recover my qickdraws since I had only 3 of them. I returned to the regroup point and continued my climbing.

Whilst climbing this route I discovered just how important the chalk is to the climber. Without it I couldn’t have even reached the regroup point. Unfortunately after that point, I could only climb up two more bolts before I found myself stuck. I was exhausted so I had to descend leaving a qickdraw there.

Since nearly everybody finished climbing the „Banana” soon after my descent we had our lunch break. It was during this break that others joined us. After we eat, some of the newcomers also climbed „Banana” and everybody rappelled from the anchor that I made at the regroup point on „Balcoane”

When he finished, I climbed again, trying to go past the point where I got stuck last time. That just wasn’t possible but I managed to recover my quickdraw and replace it with a piece of cord so that I could descend. Because I hate leaving gear on the mountain but also because I was eager to rappel from the top, I gathered the ropes and went up around the mountain. Florin joined me, since he also wanted to rappel from the top. When we got there, after setting the anchor, he decided that he will skip the rappel and descend the same path we used to get there.

On my way down I stopped to recover the piece of rope left there earlier. My arrival at the base concluded our climbing experience. Florin released the ropes from their anchors and returned with the group. Afterwards we packed everything and went back to the car, arriving there at about 5:20 PM.

It really was a wonderful day, with a great weather, the ideal atmosphere for a „climbing Sunday” surrounded by wonderful people, a day ended as usual with great music in Dan’s car, on the way home.

I thank everybody for this day and especially Ciprian who came up with the idea, brought most f the gear and made it all possible. Thank God for keeping us safe and close to the rock, and although I had a „close call” while I was lead climbing the „Balcoane” route, I managed to regain balance and avoid falling. Also I want to thank the photographers for all the snapshots taken that day, cause I was more focused on climbing than taking photos.

I can hardly wait for the next climbing trip, and I really hope that will happen soon enough, so that I can attend it.

Last night, after work, or better said, after getting home from work, I got a call from my dear old friend Mircea who just wasn't in the mood for sleep and came up with the idea to go out. As most of you might know already, I don't usually go out unless there's an occasion or if I'm visiting another city for example, but it's been so long since the two of us spend some time chatting that I just could not refuse.

This song was playing last night at the radio and it intrigued us both. Of course we had no idea of the name of  the song or the artist playing, but Mircea's phone found all those informations for :) It is now my new obsession... musical obsession that is!

Yeah, as you can see I'm back! I know few of you missed me, and I would like to thank you. I'm not gonna lie, it is kinda nice to be missed because it shows that you care and that all of this is not in vain.

I have no idea what the future holds for us, when or if I will ever get back to posting daily or weekly, but I know that this is not over. I am glad that you are still here and that you keep blogging. I cannot promise to post as often as before, but I can promise that I would never disappear or abandon my blog.

It is good to be back. I've missed you!

Una din clipele memorabile...

Să te oprești din muncă aproape de miezul nopții poate nu sună chiar distractiv pentru unii, să te prindă primele ore ale zilei de mâine pe drum spre casă poate că nu e tocmai ideal, mai ales dacă ești plecat de dimineață...

dar...

uneori, dacă anumiți factori sunt împliniți, în finalul unei astfel de zile există un anumit moment când „planetele se aliniază”, când totul e perfect și nimic nu mai contează decât clipa de față. E o stare de spirit care poate ține câteva secunde sau cel mult un minut...  dar care schimbă radical felul cum se încheie ziua.
