GroupHug on Romania's National Day (EventCache)

In the extended weekend* from the end of November , I went in a beautiful trip in the Ciuc Mountains, a trip that came packed with a EventCache. For me that was the drop that spilled the cup, since most likely I wouldn't have joined the trip if it wasn't for geocaching.
* on December 1 it's Romania's National Day, which is a non-working day, This year, Dec 01 was on a Monday, ergo an „extended weekend”.

The event was called „National day Group Hug” and you can find it here

We left Iași on Friday (day 0) around noon and the plan was to pass by my house (my parents house) to pick-up my backpack and some tools, then go to Piatra Neamț for some work and afterwards head for Valea Rece through Comănești. The stop in Comănești was important because I wanted to replace a missing (disabled) cache, the only one in the city: GC1TJP7. We arrived there after dark and almost at the same time as the car that left from Galați, the one in wich was Dj Storm, who accompanied us in the mission to replace the cache.

After the job was done we left for the cabin, where we arrived quite late... after the kitchen was closed. So, without having any soup, we went to bed.

First day. Saturday morning, after breakfast, we went towards Viscol (Blizzard) Peak (1493 m). The first part of our climb was easy and without much snow, but as we were getting higher the wind  (blizzard, remember?) started to pick up and snow (ice) flakes  were hitting our faces from the left...

By the time we reached the refuge, the wind settled down and we had some beautiful, calm, big snow flakes and story like sights.

From the refuge we continued towards the peak. Here we found a geocache. Actually Mircea saw it since I wasn't even looking since I knew there is nothing on the geocaching.com map. Indeed this was an unofficial a different type of geocache, But no problem, because after this trip, geocaching.com has a box hidden on this peak, thanks to Dj Storm!

Obvious, on the peak is the place for the group photo. Petronel was missing from the picture since he stayed at the refuge, busy with some radio transmissions...

On our way down we met with the group from Pathos Club. Since they arrived late, it was just now that they were climbing to the top. They returned late to the cabin so we did not dine together.

The next day the trip was going to be bigger, targeting Nascalat peak. This time it was planned for everybody to leave at the same time, all the three clubs: Mecanturist Galați, HaiPeMunte Iași and Pathos București. But not everybody attended. A few from Pathos stayed behind, also me and Petronel. While the others were getting ready to leave, after breakfast, I went back to bed because I was tired from the past week.

So from our group only me and Petronel were left at the cabin. After lunch we woke up and left for Păgânilor Peak. It was suppose to be a short hike so that is why we allowed ourselves a little more sleep in the morning.

Unlike the other day, the weather was this time much nicer. No sign of snowing or wind!

It turned out that on this peak also there is a unofficial ”other kind of” geocache. I found this one looking for the one cache, hidden by I3SENII not long ago...

The deal was like this: I'm going to the peak for the geocache and Petro for the radio transmissions, and so the trip was worth it for both of us.

I finished my things faster (finding the cache, taking pictures with the trackables) so, for the rest of the time while he was on the radio, I kept going around the peaks, climbed whatever I could find, took pictures and watched the fog come and go over us.

After finishing we headed back to the cabin where we found the others, freshly returned from their trip.

The evening at the cabin was great. After dinner we had laughs, the geo-event (eventcache), jokes and a lovely game of charades. And that really light up the evening and we had tons of fun and laughs!

On the third day, the first of December, the trip was going to be shorter due to the fact that it was the day we were heading home. The group (the large group) from Pathos decided to leave early because they had a long way home and the weather cast was a bit worrying. Our group left for Orodic Peak and me and Mircea decided to go for another geocache, the one near Frumoasa (The Beautiful) Lake. It would have been a shame to be so close to it and not go there. Especially since caches are so rare here and you never know if we were ever going to return to the area...

Așadar: Geocaching cu Mircea de Ziua Națională!!
So: Geocaching with Mircea on National Day!!

After a small hike through undisturbed snow, we finally arrived at ground zero and easily found the cache.

Și restul fotografiilor:
And the rest of the pictures:

So yes, I did not attend the trips from the second and the third day, but as I told you in the beginning, I came here for geocaching so if I have to choose between a trip on a mountain route and a geocaching trip on a smaller mountain route, it's obvious I'm going to choose the last... Always!

After we all returned from our trips, we had lunch for the last time at the cabin and we headed home. But not before stopping in Comănești. I convinced I3SENII to take a small break to search for the cache I recently replaced. It was like a test-run for me, and I've seen that they found it quite easy... At the moment I am writing this, I noticed the cache was enabled and that makes me very happy!

Well, this was my weekend: mountain, nature, winter, blizzard, snow, a lost hat, geocaching on Saint Andrew's Day and on National Day, old friends, new friends, laughs and tons of fun. in a few words: I don't regret a thing! On second thought... there might be one thing I regret from the last night at the cabin, but... it's in the past now!

It was a great weekend:

Later edit (05.12.2014 00:45)

Dud! How could I forget one of the greatest things of this trip: the name badges that Ștefan made for each of us! Great idea! Too bad the trip was not long enough to allow more activities.. like at least a week long :)) The badges were one of those small things that might go unnoticed, but for me they were very important! So, Thank You Ștefan!
