Cum să... faci un recipient geocache

Pentru unii nimic nou, pentru alții noutate, articolul de astăzi vă prezintă modul (modurile) prin care puteți transforma sticlele de plastic în mici recipiente pentru geocaching (sau orice alte utilizări ați avea pentru un recipient atât de mic).
For some it's old news, for others might be novelty, today's post shows you how to transform plastic bottles into geocache containers (or maybe you have another use for such a container). 


Când eram mici obișnuiam să facem brelocuri din capace de PET, dar pe vremea aia nici nu exista geocachingul. Nu știu cine a venit cu ideea să reînvie acest recipient și să îl folosească astfel, dar eu l-am găsit pentru prima oară în Constanța, într-una din geo-excursiile mele din vara lui 2014. Imediat ce l-am văzut mi-am amintit de copilărie și de brelocurile cu țepi pe care le făceam. Să fiu sincer, nici nu cred că sticlele de suc mai au acum acele coliere, deci cine nu a prins vremurile alea, habar nu are cum se făceau brelocurile.

De aceea, poate că acest articol e util celor tineri sau celor care în tinerețe nu au prins moda asta. Și de asemenea e util, sper, celor care au găsit primul meu geocache: PBC#1 - 500 dar nu le este clar cum se realizează un astfel de recipient. De fapt, este foarte simplu (video la final):

When we were young we used to make keychains from bottle caps, but back then there was no geocaching. I have no clue as to who came up with the idea of making this old type of container into a geocache, but the first time I saw it was in the summer of 2014 in Constanța, Romania. When I first lay my eyes on the cache, I immediately remembered my childhood spiky keychains so I decided to make some containers  myself. Most likely kids nowadays don't know about these so they don't build them anymore. I am not even sure the bottles still have those spiky rings, so  even if you wanted, you couldn't actually make a keychain like we used to. That is why I thought a tutorial might be good. Also, I guess it will be useful for everybody that found my first cache and wondered how it's made :). In fact, it's really easy (video at the end):

Găsește două sticle de plastic identice (sau măcar de același tip).

Get two identical plastic bottles (or at least of the same kind).

Folosind orice unealtă dorești, taie și păstrează partea superioară a unei sticle (gâtul sticlei). 
Avem nevoie doar de cele două capace și de gâtul unei sticle. Poți arunca restul (în containerul pentru deșeuri de plastic).

Cut away (using any tool you want) the top part of the bottle (the neck of one bottle).
We only need the neck of one bottle and both lids. You can throw away the rest (at the recycle bin).

Înlătură excesul de plastic puțin câte puțin, astfel încât gâtul sticlei să intre forțat în capac.

Remove the excess plastic getting closer and closer to the neck, just so that one of the lids fits snugly.

Presează gâtul sticlei într-unul din capace.
Capacul ar trebui să rămână blocat pe poziție, dacă pasul 3 a fost efectuat corect.

Press the neck of the bottle in one of the lids.
The lid should stay in place if stage 3 was done properly.

Și gata!  Aveți un recipient mic, format din două capace de PET și un gât de sticlă. Unul din capace e fix, celălalt se înfiletează normal. Pentru a fi siguri că recipeintul nu e deschis în mod greșit dar și pentru a-l face rezistent la apă, vă sfătuiesc să folosiți adeziv pentru a fixa capacul inferior.

And you are done! You have now a small container built from two plastic bottle lids and a bottle neck. One of the lids is stuck in place and the other screws in normally. To make sure your container is waterproof and that it will not be opened the wrong way, my advice is to use some epoxy to fasten the bottom lid.

Desfaceți recipientul, aplicați adezivul și apoi repetați pasul 4.

Reopen the container, put in the glue and repeat stage 4.

Așa le fac eu. E drept, pentru brelocuri se taie altfel sticla, astfel încât la final să nu se mai vadă deloc gâtul, ci doar cele două capace, dar în geocaching, ai nevoie de recipiente mai măricele uneori. Dacă folosiți o sticlă cu gâtul alungit (de exemplu de la apă minerală), veți putea obține un recipeint mai lung.
And that's how I make these containers. True, for a keychain you have to cut the bottle different, so that at the end you only see the lids, an not the neck of the bottle, but for geocaches, it's sometimes better to have a bigger container. Speaking of that, if you use a bottle that has a longer neck (like some water bottles have), you can get a bigger (longer) container.

A geocacher friend I have here in Denmark, after seeing my cache, decided to try and build some himself. Doing so, he actually invented a new way of making PBC containers:

Găsește două sticle de plastic identice.

Get two IDENTICAL plastic bottles.

Taie ambele sticle cât mai aproape de inelul de plastic.
Pentru astfel de sticle nu puteți folosi un cutter fiindcă plasticul e foarte tare. De am folosit unelte electrice. 

Cut both bottle necks, as close to the ring as possible.
For this kind of bottle a knife blade is not enough since the plastic is very hard. I used machine cutting.

Șlefuiește tăieturile astfel încât suprafețele tăiate să fie plane. 
De preferat să folosești un șlefuitor sau șmirghel pe o suprafață dreaptă. Eu n-am avut la îndemână așa ceva. 

Sand flat both bottle necks where you made the cut. 
It's recommended to use a sander or sandpaper on a flat surface. I had none, so...

Lipește cele două gâturi de sticlă.

Glue together both bottle necks on the surfaces you just sanded.

So there you have it! 

Geocache containers made from garbage. You have to love recycling! 

One piece of advice for all my danish friends: do not use recyclable bottles because the  "pant" scanner does not accept the bottles without the neck. Instead, use the non-recyclable cocomilk / yogurt / protein drinks bottles. In Denmark we find them all over the place because people just throw them out, since they cannot be sold for "pant" value. On a single trip Odense-Munkebo I find at least 4-5 of these bottles.

Caches made like this could be made magnetic by adding a magnet to the bottom or, if you add a screw ring you can make it hang on something.
